James Turgal

James Turgal is the former executive assistant director for the FBI Information and Technology Branch (CIO). Turgal now serves as Optiv Security’s vice president of global cyber risk, strategy, and board relations. Turgal has personally helped many companies respond to and recover from ransomware attacks, and he is an expert on the topics of cybercrime, cyber insurance, cybersecurity, ransomware, and more. In his role at Optiv, James provides subject-matter expertise and advice/recommendations/education to C-suite executives, audit committees, and boards of directors on cyber-threat actors, cyber intelligence, resilience, cyber-risk quantification, and response to the crisis management challenges facing companies. Turgal draws on his two decades of experience investigating and solving cybercrimes for the FBI. He was instrumental in the creation of the FBI’s Terrorist Watch and No-Fly Lists.
