Paul Munter

Former Chief Accountant, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission

 

Paul Munter served as the SEC’s Chief Accountant from 2021 – 2025. Prior to that he served the SEC as Deputy Chief Accountant from 2019 - 2021, leading the Office of the Chief Accountant’s international work. Before re-joining the SEC, Mr. Munter was a senior instructor of accounting at the University of Colorado Boulder. He had previously retired from KPMG, where he served as the lead technical partner for the U.S. firm’s international accounting and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) activities and served on the firm’s panel responsible for establishing firm positions on the application of IFRS. He also has served on the faculties of the University of Miami and Texas Tech University. Mr. Munter earned his Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Colorado. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in accounting from Fresno State University. He is a Certified Public Accountant in Colorado, New York, and Florida.
